WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Inversions below are notated in a form of ukulele chord shorthand that gives fret positions through a sequence of four numbers. In this system the open strings GCEA would be notated 0000 (a C6 chord). Some other chords you already know: 0003 = C, 2010 = F, 0232 = G, etc.
- Diminished-seven chords are added in this unit with first and second position inversions.
- Major-seven chords are also added with first and second position inversions.

CHALLENGE
Earn your Third Inversion Grandmaster patch by demonstrating the following standard Jazz ‘diminished-seven substitution‘ chord sequence, in three different keys, twice each: play through the first time in first position inversions and then a second time in second positions. Alternately, you can play the progression once, switching positions for each chord mid sequence (a common technique in Jazz comping).
- Imaj7–#idim7–ii7–biiidim7–iii7–VI7–ii7–viidim7–Imaj7
In the key of C this would be: Cmaj7–C#dim7-Dm7–Ebdim7–Em7–A7–Dm7–Bdim7–Cmaj7
