On this site I whole-heartedly recommend various books and materials for becoming a better ukulele player.
Some links are affiliate links and help support my efforts in the form of a few pennies here and there.
Thank you for your support.
LOOKING UP CHORD SHAPES
- My favorite place to look up chord shapes is UkeBuddy.com
- It is also good to own a ukulele chord dictionary for quick reference.
CHALLENGE
Earn your Core Chords Level 4 patch by demonstrating the following chord sequences in the keys of Bb, F, C, G, D, A & E:
- I–V–vi–iii–IV–I–IV–V7 (Pachelbel Progression) : Used in Piano Man (Billy Joel), Puff the Magic Dragon (Peter, Paul & Mary), Basket Case (Green Day), Go West (Village People) and others . . .
- I–vi–ii–V or I–vi–ii7–V7 (The Jazz Progression or subsititute for The 50s Progression) : Used in Heart and Soul, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, I Got Rhythm, Sleigh Ride, Try to Remember, Come Go With Me, Sh-Boom, Goodnight Sweetheart and others . . .
For instance, in the key of G, you would strum G–D–Em–Bm–C–G–C–D7 and G–Em–Am–D (or G–Em–Am7–D7), making sure to keep a steady beat and changing smoothly from chord to chord.
THE EXTRA MILE
Although demonstrating the use of these chords in the context of a song is not required to earn the patch, you may wish to consider learning one or more songs that use these sequences for an easy addition to your Set Lists.
