WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- String numbers: A=1, E=2, C=3 & G=4
- Right hand finger lettering: P=Thumb & I=Index
- Each of the fingerstyle patterns below is performed with an alternating thumb and index motion in either an I P or P I pattern.
- These patterns are extensions of the circular patterns of Level 3, stretched to fit 4/4 time signatures. This gives them a decidedly syncopated feel.
CHALLENGE
Earn your Fingerstyle Level 4 patch by demonstrating two of the following fingerstyle patterns for a 4/4 time signature. You may use a song or songs you are working on to demonstrate the patterns, or one of the chord sequences you’ve learned so far. Demonstrated patterns should keep a consitent beat with no noticeable pauses between chords. Patterns may be played straight or swung.
