L1: Two-Beat IP Patterns

What you need to know

  • String numbers: A=1, E=2, C=3 & G=4
  • Right hand finger lettering: P=Thumb & I=Index
  • Each of the fingerstyle patterns below is performed with an alternating thumb and index motion in either an I P I P or P I P I pattern.

CHALLENGE

Earn your Fingerstyle Level 1 patch by demonstrating two of the following two-beat fingerstyle patterns in 4/4 time (the pattern will repeat twice for each measure). You may use a song or songs you are working on to demonstrate the patterns, or the following chord sequence taken from the Level 1 Core Chords: C C7 F G7 (one measure per chord, repeated at least two times). Demonstrated patterns should keep a consitent beat with no noticeable pauses between chords. Patterns may be played straight or swung.
